THE WAY OF YOGA
Everybody knows something about yoga… it is part of our western culture so that most people have had contact with it at least once in their lives. It is not something only for specialists but rather it is for us all even if we have some curious ideas about it. The word ‘Yoga’ derives from the Sanskrit word ‘Yug’ which means unify. This meaning refers to all those practices that have the aim of controlling the physical and energetic body, the senses and the mind, to get them into a permanent harmony. Yoga’s last aim is realized when you stop your mental confusion; at this point our true ‘Self’ can materialize. That’s why we can say that Yoga is not only a physical exercise, but above all it gives us the ability to leave in a global way, in a state of unity and fulfillment. These are some reasons why it is important to practise Yoga:
- It relieves stress and at the same time helps you to rediscover and preserve your energy
- It enables you to find your own natural rhythm in a society where everything is so hectic
- It has a beneficial psychophysical effect (it helps us to sleep better and heals many dysfunctions, as it is able to massage the internal organs)
- It helps to be more aware and to live in the present, avoiding the past with its sorrows and the future with its anxieties and fears
- It helps us to develop a necessary detachment to make the better choices
- It helps us to know ourselves more deeply and to build better relations with others.
Yoga is therefore a powerful instrument that enables us to improve the quality of our lives. It is considered one of the most ancient form of psychology.
